🚁 Big thanks to Valley Helicopters for the lift.

This weekend, the Pacific Forest Rally is taking place in our region, and the event’s radio control relies on the incredible efforts of local ham radio operators. They manage communications through a network of repeaters—Iron Mountain, Thynne Mountain, Logan Lake, and a valley repeater right here in Merritt—all connected via the Internet.

Last night, the connection to Thynne Mountain went down, which meant we needed to get to the site fast—by helicopter! Huge shoutout to Ian for funding the trip and to Cam, our skilled pilot, for navigating the snowy peaks like a pro. ❄️🚁

Bonus: The Merritt Snowmobile Club webcam is now back online thanks to the restored internet at Thynne. While issues like this are rare, ensuring rally safety meant getting that link back up was essential.

Fun fact: Valley Helicopters regularly uses our webcam to check weather conditions over the Coquihalla Pass. Glad to have it back!
